For us, the only way to begin 2021 was with a heavyweight head-to-head. We’re not talking about Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury here though – this is far more American…

Ford may have pilfered its Mustang heritage to give its first proper EV some gloss, but it’s a well-sorted family SUV that’s at least got us all talking. The real question is, though, how does it stack up against the only competition that anyone cares about – the Tesla Model Y?

You can find out by ordering the latest issue direct to your door (with free delivery) by clicking these very words. Or perhaps you’d prefer to download it straight to your phone or tablet? You can do that by clicking here if you’re an Apple user and here for Android users.

Fancy more this new year? Subscribe to TG magazine today and UK-based readers can take advantage of our incredible January sale offer of just £5 for three issues. Your subscription will then continue at only £23.50 every six issues – a 25 per cent saving on the usual in-store price. Oh, and there’s free delivery to boot – click these blue words to take advantage.

Elsewhere this month is TG’s rough guide to America, which includes everything from how to roadtrip, a history of the muscle car, a look at the USA’s greatest ever drivers and our guide to becoming a NASCAR fan (warning: contains mullets).

It’s not all about America this January though, we’ve also been driving Citroen’s brilliant little eggbox on wheels – the Ami – and had a play at being filthy rich in the Lamborghini Urus, the Bentley Bentayga, the Aston Martin DBX and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe.

We’ve also got first drives of the BMW iX3, the new Mercedes-AMG E63 S and the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai. Oh, and a group test between the Tesla Model 3, the Nissan Leaf and the VW ID.3 for good measure. Aren’t we good to you lot?
