GM's EV sales have doubled in the space of a year

It's still a long way behind Tesla, but the gap seems to be narrowing...

Chevy accounts for the chunkiest piece of pie, shifting more than 37,000 electron-powered mobiles: the Equinox topped that list with 21,804 units, backed up by its Silverado pickup and Blazer SUV.

Come to think of it, GM's wider line-up is looking pretty well stocked these days, with stuff like the Escalade IQ, Optiq and Lyriq on Cadillac's books and GMC launching the likes of the Hummer EV and Sierra EV.

GM is currently out-hauling Ford, which has shifted 34,132 EVs so far this year, and is now the second-biggest e-player in the US. However, estimates suggest its sales are still only half that of Tesla's: the Model Y and Model 3 remain the top two best sellers.

Is the tide beginning to change though? Tesla’s sales are actually 11 per cent down in 2025. You won't need reminding of the, um, PR challenges it's faced in recent months.

“We are at a turning point where EVs will be the mainstream choice for the next generation of customers and Equinox EV will lead this charge for us,” said Mary Barra, Chair and CEO of General Motors.
