Hertz will rent anyone a 750bhp Chevrolet Camaro

Well, not quite anyone. But still, phwoar

Published: 23 Sep 2019

The process of renting a car is not fun. Long queues at the airport, lots of paperwork, various hidden charges that end up basically doubling your bill… and then a crummy hatchback at the end of it.

But maybe all those frustrations would be forgotten, were you to walk out of the terminal and be greeted by one of these things. Yup, Hertz has teamed up with Hendrick Motorsports to offer two special Camaros for rental in the States.

A mighty 224 of these special Camaros will be added to the company’s fleet this autumn, and available to rent from a few airports in California, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Arizona, Tennessee and Georgia. Of those, 200 are based on the Camaro SS, and boast a 480bhp 6.2-litre V8, a burbly cat-back exhaust, big wheels, lots of plaques and so on.

Sounds fun. But the Camaro you really want waiting for you at the end of a long flight is the Hertz-Hendrick Motorsports Camaro ZL1, which has a massive Callaway supercharger for a grand total of 750bhp. That’s right – anyone (within reason) can walk up to a Hertz rental desk, and walk away with the keys for a nigh on 800bhp muscle car. What a time to be alive.

Y’know, unless the clerk decides a Fiat 500 is “similar” because it too has four wheels and a windscreen, and gives you one of those instead.
