The Morgan Supersport is heading to the US, but it’s missing two key things
Americans can now order the Supersport, but it’s down on power versus the UK car
Yee-haw, you can now order a Morgan Supersport stateside! Morgan says that securing federal approval under the FAST (Fixing America's Surface Transportation) Act’s Replica Car Rule required “extensive engineering and homologation work”, but that it’ll now be able to sell up to 325 examples each year in the US.
Although actually, ‘extensive engineering’ might just be underselling it, because in order to homologate the Supersport for sale across the pond Morgan had to fit it with a whole new engine.
So, while UK cars get a 335bhp BMW 3.0-litre 6cyl turbo (with the option of 402bhp in the excellent Supersport 400), US buyers will have to make do with 255bhp and 258lb ft of torque from BMW’s B46 turbo four-pot. That’s the same engine as in the baby Plus Four, and the only gearbox is ZF’s eight-speed auto.
Morgan has attempted to soften the blow slightly though, mentioning that there’s the option of ‘American Walnut’ wood trim and a ‘Dynamic Handling Pack’ that features adjustable front and rear Nitron dampers that were developed specifically for the US-spec Supersport. There’s also the option of a lightweight carbon composite hardtop that weighs just 19.7kg, and you can even have Sennheiser audio and a wireless phone charger. How modern.
Just 50 build slots remain available for the 2026 model year, and prices will start at $119,995, which is slightly more than Americans pay for a V6-engined Lotus Emira. So, which slice of Cool Britannia are you taking over there, folks?
