Volvo S80 news - Volvo S80 prices announced - 2006

Published: 10 Apr 2006

We've had the Rumble in the Jungle and the Thriller from Manila. Now there's the kneading from Sweden.

At least that's what Volvo is hoping to dish out to its executive sector rivals with the new S80.

Priced from £24,375 for the 2.5T S model, the S80 kicks off at less money than its key competitors from BMW.

Volvo is also entering the fight without one hand tied behind its back, because the S80 is now offered with a silky 311bhp V8 engine, as well as the usual five- and six-cylinder petrols, and five-cylinder 2.4-litre turbodiesel in both 161- and 183bhp guises.

There are no less than five trim levels to worry rivals with some fancy footwork and all come with climate control, alloy wheels, cruise control and somewhere to plug in your iPod.

From the outside, the S80 has a leaner, fitter look, which is carried through to a stylish cabin that follows the S40 with a 'floating' centre console.

You can order an S80 now and first deliveries are expected in August.
