What should I be paying?

The base e-tron GT quattro has returned a bit of normality to the range with its £89,505 entry point, while above it sits the £108,775 S e-tron GT.

As mentioned, you get more interior kit as standard than before. You also get that bigger battery, much more power and adaptive air suspension. Adaptive cruise control with active lane assist is now standard on all variants.

Want even more gear? The step up to Vorsprung trim brings bigger wheels, a panoramic roof with ‘variable light control’, sportier Nappa leather seats with a massage function and Matrix LED headlights with frickin' laser lights (doubling your high-beam range over the standard Matrix LED units). Plus the all-wheel steering and head-up display you might feasibly expect from a chunky EV at this price point. It adds over £20,000 to each model, mind.

The RS e-tron GT kicks off at £127,375, but of course you can take a step up to Carbon Black or fully loaded Vorsprung trims. The latter brings the trick active suspension and costs £149,925.

The 912bhp RS e-tron GT Performance starts at £143,875 and brings carbon ceramic brakes as standard to cope with the extra grunt. Again, Carbon Black and Vorsprung trims are ready to squeeze more money out of you, right up to almost £170k.

Just be very mindful all cars launch at the top of a steep depreciation curve. Like its Taycan sibling, there's a reputation here. A swift look at the classifieds shows year-old cars commanding not much more than half price. There's room to haggle here...

Any advice on spec?

Get ready to attract attention wherever you go (especially if you click Progressive Red on the configurator… only for the brave) because this is a damn good looking car. Wheels range from 20in to 21in. Low-slung, too, so watch yourself opening the doors beside high kerbs.

Note the grille – less need for cooling means no need for Audi’s usual gaping single frame number, hence the block of body-coloured trim under the badge. The sinewy creases above the arches are a highlight, so too the full-width rear light bar (just below the pop-up rear spoiler) that’ll do a merry dance every time you lock and unlock the car.
