What should I be paying?
Aside from the high levels of standard kit, the 3 also scores well when it comes to insurance, sitting in group 4E (a good result, given the size and power of the engine). However, other running costs aren’t as impressive – chiefly because of the engine. 48.7mpg and 136g/km would be poor in a car many classes above the MG – in a brand new supermini they’re downright hopeless.
MG defends this by pointing out that the 3 is much cheaper to start off with, so the running costs aren’t as relevant, but that’s scant excuse. A three-star Euro NCAP score is pretty poor too.
