Buying
What should I be paying?
At launch the range is refreshingly simple, with the Dual Motor and Performance variants both only offered in a ‘Launch Edition’ trim. That includes a head-up display, a ‘Pilot Pack’ with extra driver assist functions and a ‘Climate Pack’ that adds a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and heated wiper blades.
As standard, the Dual Motor Launch Edition costs £89,500 and comes fitted with 20in wheels, Brembo brakes and a 10-speaker audio system. It also gets that headline 421-mile range, remember, but you’ll need to pay an extra £900 for MicroSuede headlining, £4k for the Bowers & Wilkins stereo and £5,300 for leather trim.
Add those up (plus the cost of larger 21in wheels) and the £104,900 Performance starts to look like decent value. Compare that to the £135k you’d need to spend to get a Taycan Turbo and it looks even better. The Lotus Emeya 900 has around 20bhp more, but it’s almost as pricey as the Porsche.
On finance, the 5 Dual Motor will cost you around £1,300 per month on a four-year deal with a £10k deposit and 10k annual mileage limit. The Performance ups the monthly payments to £1,438 on the same terms.
Anything else I need to know?
Like a colourful car? Either you need to make friends with your friendly neighbourhood wrapper, or the 5 isn’t for you. A metallic silver is the standard paint finish, while the only cost options are white, black and various shades of grey.
