Subaru Forester (US) review
Buying
What should I be paying?
The Subaru Forester starts at $29,995 for the base model, though it’s understandably light on features, even if all are mostly mechanically identical. Specifically, X-Mode and hill descent control are the most substantial omissions from this. This trim also eschews the 11.6-inch touchscreen for a seven-inch basic model, though given how the larger tablet screen runs like molasses, maybe that’s a feather in its cap.
As stated all ten – yes, ten – trim levels all have the same 2.5-liter boxer engine, including the hybrid models, though utilized a little differently to function in tandem with the electrics. This is to say that models like Sport and Sport Hybrid only bring aesthetic differences, and no performance boosts.
The Wilderness is the most unique and the most ‘Subaru’ with the increased ride height, departure-angle-friendly bumpers and roof rails. Plus there’s the all-terrain wheels and the extra cladding as the icing on this woodsy cake.
To that end, the Wilderness would be the most attractive Forester to us, coming in with a $36,995 price tag.
