Big news in America: it's the Jeep Gladiator Top Dog
Finally, the US has something to talk about - an extra-gnarly Jeep
We bring an announcement from America, a country that’s been a little quiet on the news front of late. Thus its residents will be delighted to learn of the new Jeep Wrangler Top Dog.
The name isn’t literal, to our slight sadness, but there’s plenty of excitement here. It is a Jeep Gladiator pick-up which “has been transformed into a fun concept vehicle for serious mountain bikers”.
It’s acquired 20 of the 500 Jeep Performance Parts offered by MOPAR, including the removal of the Gladiator’s regular bed and the fitment of a large black box ready to wear mountain bikes (accessible via ladder), a spare wheel and a jerry can like it’s the donkey in a very civilised game of Buckaroo.
It includes drawers on one side to hold all your cycling kit and spares, while on the other side, there’s a fridge and a hot dog grill (yay, dog reference!).
Fox shocks team up with 17in beadlock wheels and 37in off-road tyres for some proper gnarly terrain-bashing, while all four wheels are driven by Jeep’s burliest 3.6-litre V6, with 281bhp on hand. You’ve also a snorkel and a winch capable of dragging 3.6 tonnes from the nearest ditch.
The interior is full of hard-wearing materials while the dashboard and exterior panels are painted K-9 blue (dog reference part deux!). While officially a concept for SEMA – 2020’s very virtual version of SEMA, obvs – we suspect you’ll be able to lob plenty of this stuff at your own Gladiator providing you have the cash and you live in the US. Gotta do something to liven up a sleepy country, huh…
