Boring! Grey was the most popular colour for new cars in the UK in 2025
In fact, that’s eight years on the spin that grey has taken the top spot. Although blue and green did get much more popular last year
Eugh, for the eighth year on the bounce grey has been crowned the most popular colour for new cars in the UK.
Data from the SMMT shows that 558,050 grey cars were registered in 2025, which is up 2.7 per cent on the year before and is actually a record number for the shade. Yep, we’re actually managing to get more boring.
And yes, second place went to black, with 464,369 new registrations ensuring that over 50 per cent of all new cars sold in the UK last year were either grey or black. Boo.
There was a glimmer of hope for those of us that like a little colour in our lives though, because blue beat white into third place for the second year in a row. In fact, blue actually saw a 4.9 per cent increase compared to the year before, while sales of white cars decreased by nine per cent.
Unfortunately, red dropped out of the top five for the first time since 2017, with silver taking its place. Shame. It was a good year for green cars though, with 99,793 registrations marking a whopping 46.3 per cent rise vs the year before. Someone give those people a medal…
