Jag’s ‘Copy Nothing’ era begins… with key Polestar 4 feature

Jaguar has revealed its first concept teaser following its divisive rebrand. But did an ex-designer give us a hint back in 2023?

Published: 21 Nov 2024

This is your first look at Jaguar’s Design Vision Concept, which will set the heading for - you guessed it - its vision for future designs when it’s revealed in full on 2 December.

The context - which you’ll be fully up to speed with unless you’ve been living under a particularly large rock for the few days - is that Jag has underpinned its controversial rebrand this week with the phrase ‘Copy Nothing’.

Spotted the problem yet? The teaser image above is a rear shot showing an entirely blocked-out rear windscreen… in the manner of the Polestar 4. Oops.

A churlish observation perhaps, but we can’t help but think Jag has set itself up for failure with that one. But maybe that’s the point? The new logo, jaGuar badge and the promise of bold colours has got everyone talking about Jaguar. And we’ve not seen anything of real substance yet.

The discourse around it has now reached such a fever pitch that the release of a simple teaser of a concept car has been met with phrases like ‘BREAKING NEWS’ and ‘FULL ANALYSIS’. If you’re in the marketing department, you’re raising a toast to a job well done right now.

Anyway, back to the teaser. The other feature that stands out is the column of slats on the tailgate. Wonder how that ties in with the slab-sided four-door GT that was pictured last week? All will be revealed at Miami Art Week next month.

And here's a conspiracy theory for you: have we actually seen this exact corner angle already? Eagle-eyed Instragrammers have spotted that former Jaguar designer Massimo Frascella - now design director at Audi - posted the image below... nearly two years ago, in April 2023.

Hidden in plain sight all this time!
