BYD is bringing the all-electric Atto 2 to the UK and Europe
Another day, another electric SUV from China
BYD’s compact SUV, the Yuan Up, is gearing up for a launch in the UK and Europe. Arriving in February, over here it’ll be called the BYD Atto 2. Bless you.
Yep, the car-which-sounds-like-a sneeze is a smidge smaller than its big brother the Atto 3 and from what we can see, promises to be as stylishly packaged. There are sharp front angles, a fancy glass roof and funky figure-of-eight rear lights.
The Atto 2 sits on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 and integrates its famous Blade Battery directly into the chassis. Initially, the car will have a 45.1kWh rated capacity (usable power) pack, powering a 130kW (174bhp) front-mounted motor, allowing up to 194 miles of range. BYD intends to break out a bigger battery later in the year.
Inside that 2.6m wheelbase there's a flat floor and a 400-litre boot capacity, along with the usual suspects – upholstered seats? Check. A couple of digital screens? Check. Cupholders? You betcha.
The Atto 2 is going to have to work hard, mind, going up against the likes of the Jeep Avenger, Volvo EX30 and the VW ID.4, to name but a few.
We'd usually gloss over the faux-ruggedness, because – let's be frank – the Atto 2 is going nowhere near beastly terrain in the city, but we've learned BYD has a cheeky sense of humour. The Atto 2's palette names are Climbing grey, Hiking green and Skiing white, and – wait for it – Cosmos black.
More as we get it.
