This electric Dodge rallycross car has 1,085bhp and gets to 60 in 1.4s
Based on the humble Hornet, it’ll even pack nearly 2gs of force during early acceleration phases
This is the Hornet R/T FC1-X: a 1,085bhp, all-wheel drive rallycross car that gets to 60mph in just 1.4s and generates nearly 2gs of force on the way there. Yep, sounds fairly terrifying.
Powered by a quartet of axial flux motors, the FC1-X is the first truly hardcore electric racer from Dodge, with four examples entered into this year’s Nitrocross Group E class. The team? That’ll be helmed by none other than Lia Block.
Other mechanical details include a tubular chassis, with the tub made entirely from that carbon fibre stuff. The brakes are provided by Alcon, and there's double wishbone suspension that allows up to 12in of wheel travel. Suppose the adjustable anti-roll bars should come in handy too, then.
It’s a proper piece of work, the FC1-X, and it certainly looks the part too. It’s sat about two miles off the ground thanks to that trick suspension and features a significantly wider body and thicker arches than the standard thing. Then a lot of chiselled splitters and wings happen, too.
The new season kicked off last weekend at the Utah Motorsports Campus in Salt Lake City, with a further nine events set to take place between now and the campaign’s conclusion in early March. Expect plenty of fairly terrifying jumps.
