The Isuzu D-Max Steel Edition is a very beefy, and very grey upgrade to the V Cross

It’s also limited to just 300 build slots, with prices starting at £38,495 for a six-speed manual

Published: 23 Apr 2024

Isuzu has launched yet another version of its D-Max pickup, dubbed the ‘Steel Edition’, which now brings the total number of limited-run models to… 900, give or take. Or three times the number of Steel Edition units that will be made.

So, how do you tell the Steel Edition apart from the other 900 special editions? Well, this one gains LED scuff plates, puddle lamps and unique tailgate badging. You also get a grey finish with black accents to make it look a tiny bit meaner.

Standard features from the V Cross trim level it's spun from are also carried over, so you’ll get LED headlights and 18in alloys which feature twig-like spokes. We mustn’t forget to mention the side steps either, since these are arguably the coolest part of any rugged pickup.

Inside, the leather upholstery and lumbar supported seats still take centre stage. Aside from the nine-inch infotainment screen, you get an extra parking sensor and reverse camera in the Steel Edition.

The powertrain remains unchanged, though, so the four-cylinder turbo-diesel unit is still good for 161bhp and enough torque to drag another D-Max up the Shard. This is courtesy of the one-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne towing capacity, which probably has nothing to do with Isuzu’s ‘shift-on-the-fly’ four-wheel drive system and locking rear differential pairing.

Isuzu UK’s managing director, Alan Able, said: “With its exclusive Steel Grey Mica colour and meticulously crafted accessories, the Steel Edition represents the pinnacle of durability, style and performance.”

Fancy becoming one of the lucky 300 owners? You’ll need £38,495 for the six-speed manual version or another £1,500 for the equivalent automatic transmission when the order book opens in the first week of May. Expect to see these scaling London’s tallest building soon after that.
