Nilu27 is a new hypercar brand created by Koenigsegg’s former chief of design

And its first car will get a naturally aspirated V12 with extremely subtle styling

Published: 21 May 2024

‘Nilu27’ might sound like the username of an 11-year-old Call of Duty expert armed with an unusually strong vocabulary, but in reality, it’s the name selected by Sasha Selipanov for his all-new hypercar brand. The aim is to build cars that are “in equal measure beautiful and brutal”, apparently.

And to give the world a taster of just what he has planned for Nilu27’s maiden product - which'll use a naturally aspirated V12, just FYI - the brand has released a teaser clip (found here). From the off, it appears to combine stylistic traits from many of Selipanov’s former employers, including Bugatti, Koenisegg and Lamborghini.

The as yet unnamed car - which Selipanov missed a trick by not naming the ‘microwave87’ - boasts narrow gullwing doors, partially exposed suspension bits and a two-part rear diffuser. Other highlights include a triple-exit exhaust which crosses above the line of the small rear wing, meaning there’s an unusual curve along the mid-section, and negative camber to the wheels. Subtle, to say the least.

It certainly looks the part from the rear, though it’s unlikely that all of these styling traits will pass through to the final production model, with changes likely made depending on performance and aerodynamic targets.

Speaking of performance, it’s reasonable to expect this car to have a four-figure horsepower output thanks to that 12 cylinder powertrain. And because most of Selipanov’s former creations have had, let’s say ‘generous’ amounts of power.

A public statement from Nilu27 reads: “Unfazed by digitalisation, electrification and other distractions, we’re focusing on the ultimate automotive experience with a healthy dose of ‘holy s***’ mixed in for good measure.” That sounds… positively brilliant.

And here’s what Selipanov said: “My team and I are finally able to explore quintessential automotive themes without the limitations commonly imposed by the industry or preconceived commitments to technology. We cannot wait to present our first car this summer.”

The car will be officially unveiled on 15 August at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and kickstarts a lineup of cars which Nilu27 will release over the next 10 years. We’re very interested to see how this one plays out. As would Toshiba’s head of microwaves.
