Range Rover Sport gets tiny facelift

Hot on the heels of the lightly refreshed full-fat Range Rover, Land Rover has made a few choice modifications to its littler, cheaper Range Rover Sport. 

Two new engines are available – the 3.0-litre V6 petrol from the F-Type and, interestingly, the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel from smaller Jags and Land Rovers. Yep, this is a 2.0-litre Range Rover that isn’t an Evoque. Here, the engine produces 237bhp, good for 0-60mph in eight seconds and a 128mph top speed. We suspect buyers will be more interested in the 45.6mpg and 164g/km of CO2. 

Respectable, but the noise that goes along with a four-cylinder diesel isn’t very Rangie. Here’s hoping LR’s either upped the sound-deadening, or somehow made it sound less tractory. The new engine also represents a new price point – a smidge under £60k.  

Not much has changed in the looks department, though inside you do at last get the rather good InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, which makes everything look and feel that bit more modern. Other new tech includes Advanced Tow Assist, for the reversing of trailers, a kind of launch control system for low-grip surfaces and autonomous emergency braking.
