These convertible Aston Martins celebrate 60 years of… convertible Aston Martins
Meet the [deep breath] DB12 and Vanquish ‘Anniversary of Volante Editions’
Yes, it’s a clunky name. Thankfully, both look utterly spectacular, so we’ll forgive Aston Martin for naming these two limited-run convertibles the ‘60th Anniversary of Volante Editions’.
That ungainly moniker has been attached to the Aston Martin DB12 Volante – hearty V8, quite gorgeous – and the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante – very hearty V12, also quite gorgeous. Both cars offer a specification cooked up by Q in honour of Aston’s first ever Volante: 1965’s ‘Short Chassis Volante’.
Both cars are finished in a shade of green called ‘Q Pentland’ with a ‘Q Westminster Green’ hood, anodised bronze accents, exclusive-to-these-long-names 21in Q wheels finished in satin bronze, black calipers, and aluminium side strakes. There’s also a ‘Q by Aston Martin’ badge, because otherwise what’s the point?
There’s a swathe of plush materials and colourways inside, too: tan, ivory and woven leathers, walnut open pore veneers, bronze touchpoints and – because otherwise what’s the point – bespoke 60th Anniversary embroidery on the seat headrests.
A headrest against which thine head will be thrust. The DB12 needs no reintroduction: it gets a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, 671bhp, much torque, and the ability shoot right up to 202mph. Ditto the Vanquish, which gets a 5.2-litre turbo V12 and 824 very energised British horses, able to pull it right up to 214mph. It’s Aston’s fastest ever cabrio.
No word on price, but Aston’s only building 60 of each, with the first cars arriving in the hands of their wannabe secret-agent owners later this year.
