TopGear.com’s guide to pronouncing the new Ferrari V12 supercar’s name

It’s got a V12. It’s called the 12 Cilindri. But how do you actually say it?

Ferrari’s replacement for the 812 Superfast – whose name used to get scoffed at for being a touch, well, obvious - is the 12 Cilindri. How in yer face is that? It’s literally the Ferrari Twelve Cylinder. That’s even more on the nose than ‘LaFerrari’.

Thing is, when we went to see the new car in Maranello to ask Ferrari’s engineers about the new 820bhp ultra-GT, they got a bit cross… with our pronunciation. “No, it’s not the ‘Twelve-Cylinder’," they scowled.

So, to help you avoid making the same international faux pas with our Italian cousins, here’s how to wrap your lips around the name. Maybe do some tongue-twisters first to limber up.

Firstly, the ‘12’ bit. The Italian word for the number twelve is ‘dodici.’ Ready? Say it slowly, with feelin…

DODD-EE-CHEE

It’s important to get the correct ‘chuh’ sound at the end, rather than giving yourself away by saying ‘doddy-see’.

Okay, you’ve mastered that. Now apply it to the second half of the name: cilindri. Altogether now…

CHILL-INN-DREE

Very good. Now simply join everything we’ve learned together and say it with a musical enthusiasm.
