Gran Turismo 5 news - GT5: damage, good - 2009
We’ve just found some footage from Gran Turismo 5 – which, if you’ve been holidaying on one of Saturn’s moons for the last few years, is an eagerly anticipated racing simulation game for the popular ‘Playstation 3’ console – and there are two excellent bits of news.
One, it looks gorgeous. Genuinely, jaw-droppingly lifelike.
Two, it has damage rendering. Oh yes. With the notable exception of the Top Gear test track, there wasn’t much missing from GT4 – but we’ve been crossing our fingers, toes and every other body part that’s vaguely crossable in the hope that GT5 would get damage.
We don’t know exactly how much damage GT5 will get – it’s rumoured that only a small percentage of the game’s cars will be smashable, perhaps limited to select racing and rally cars – and it’s still not clear whether damage will affect the cars’ handling. Knowing Polyphony’s attention to detail, we’d be surprised if it didn’t.
Though the release date of GT5 continues to slip, we’re hoping to see the full version early next year. Fingers crossed...
So take a look, and keep in mind that the guys over at Gamersyde appear to have simply shot this off their telly:
