This is not a drill: the next GTA 6 trailer is dropping 27 August… on Netflix

‘An Extended Look’ is premiering on the streaming platform at 8pm UK time

Published: 06 Aug 2026

Been wondering when Rockstar would get around to showing a bit more of the world’s most anticipated entertainment product, GTA 6? Yeah. Us too. But that wait’s nearly over – ‘An Extended Look’ is premiering on Netflix at 8pm BST on 27 August.

Is that a bit of an odd way to release a game trailer? Yes. Is it weird to put it behind a subscription paywall of a service not everyone has access to? Yes. But does that mean the game will be bad? Also yes. It does. It means the game will be bad.

Okay, we’re kidding. Putting aside the grandiosity of that marketing strategy, we’re still fairly sure this will be quite a fun little romp. And in fairness to developer Rockstar, the official X account has clarified that the trailer will also go live on YouTube six hours later at 9pm ET – that’s 2am BST on 28 August, British GTA fans. Y’know, just in case your sleep pattern was in danger of recovering post-World Cup.

Described as a “first-of-its-kind partnership” between Rockstar and Netflix, in reality it benefits precisely nobody besides Rockstar and Netflix, but at least the inconvenient paywall exclusivity lasts only a few hours.

Gamers have been subsisting on a glacially slow trickle of information since the game was announced in November 2023. Most recently we got a look at the special edition content and preorder bonuses. Around that same time, Rockstar revealed that physical copies of the game wouldn’t contain discs, but would instead just hold download codes inside them. That, together with Sony’s plans to cease physical media production in 2028, caused a backlash from some fans.

Nevertheless, sentiment for the game beneath the obnoxious marketing has remained strong. This is Grand Theft Auto we’re talking about: a series that popularised the open world game in 2001, and has kept setting new high bars for that genre with every subsequent release.

Dual protagonists Jason and Lucia are primed to keep that streak going in GTA 6. And yes, the release date’s still the same: it’s out on 19 November 2026.
