An actual Guns N' Roses NASCAR will run at the Daytona 500
Rock gods get behind Legacy Motor Club’s number 43 Chevrolet. More liveries like this please
Rock band Guns N’ Roses is sponsoring Erik Jones’ Chevy Camaro ZL1 at the Daytona 500 this weekend. Yes, you did read that sentence correctly. In a big reveal on social media, the Legacy Motor Club race team showcased the car’s new livery featuring the group’s iconic logo on the bonnet.
Sunday sees the return of NASCAR’s most prestigious race in the cup series. The famous Florida race track will host the season-opener where 40 cars compete for 500 miles.
The Legacy Motor Club is a pretty special club, since it’s co-owned by two of NASCAR’s finest drivers, Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson - two of only three drivers to share the record for seven consecutive driver championship wins, along with Dale Earnhardt.
This isn’t the first time music icons have fronted money for a NASCAR team either. Staind, Dave Matthews Band and Green Day have all sponsored Earnhardt’s son, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Aerosmith, Nickelback and Metallica have also featured for teams and drivers over the years.
Axl Rose and his LA tribe are getting behind Jones, who’ll hope to fight alongside teammate, Noah Gragson, for victory. Jones will start from 25th place though, with Gragson just a little further up in 22nd.
Meanwhile, record-holder and apparent retiree Johnson is also making a ‘kind-of’ comeback, cherry picking some races to participate in. He’s on the roster for Daytona 500 - starting 39th ahead of Travis Pastrana - and plans to drive at Le Mans in June.
