The last R35 Nissan GT-Rs have landed in Australia
And this GT-R 'T-Spec' will be the last Nissan to get an Aus compliance label
No, Australian friends, you’ve got something in your eyes. This eye-based detritus is in no way at all connected to the news that the last R35 GT-Rs have landed in Australia.
The reason they’re the last ones? The R35 didn’t pass Australia’s new pole side-impact tests, and so the GT-R – along with other things like the Alpine A110 and Lexus RC-F – won’t be available to buy brand new anymore.
So the last batch of cars have been imported – a bunch of T-Spec motors and Nismo SVs. This particular GT-R T-Spec in the pictures above also happens to be the last Australian Nissan to wear a compliance label – as of 1 December they’re being fully digitised.
The T-Spec, we’re told, is designed to bridge the gap between the ‘regular’ GT-R range and the Nismo cars, taking in such hits as Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres wrapped around forged gold wheels, a carbon fibre rear spoiler and a dark green interior.
It also comes with a mighty twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6, four-wheel-drive and enough computing power to put most space stations to shame.
“The GT-R is Nissan’s most celebrated vehicle, and while this isn’t goodbye forever, the T-Spec and Nismo SV models do act as the closing of this chapter of the GT-R story in Australia,” said Nissan Australia’s boss Adam Paterson.
“The fact that the last version of this generation of Nissan’s performance icon will also be the last to wear a label that’s been part of the fabric of Australian automotive history for more than 30 years is entirely fitting,” he added.
