An all-female F1 Academy will be led by former racer Susie Wolff
Rare female in motorsport to champion girls who want to race
Long-time motorsport presence Susie Wolff will be stepping into the role of managing director for the recently created F1 Academy, an all-female driver series aiming to develop girls’ interest and abilities in motor racing.
The former Williams F1 development driver has been invited to bring her motorsport know-how to the academy series, which was announced in November 2022.
Wolff will bring a wealth of experience, from her days karting, all the way through to racing in DTM and, since retirement in 2015, being team principal for the Venturi Formula-E racing team.
The Scot is a committed advocate of seeing more women in motorsport in roles more challenging than those of being a grid girl. In 2016, she created the ‘Dare to be Different’ campaign, to help increase female participation at all levels of motor racing.
The new role as MD of F1 Academy means Wolff will now report into Stefano Domenicali, F1 boss and former Ferrari team principal. “It is fantastic news. Susie is an incredible person who understands what it takes to reach the highest levels of motorsport, both as a driver and team principal," he said.
"Her first hand knowledge will be of huge benefit to all of us and the drivers who are on their journey to progress through the racing pyramid. We are committed to maximising the opportunities in our sport for anyone to reach their true potential and achieve their dreams and we believe F1 Academy is a very important part of our plans to be a more diverse and inclusive sport."
