This 5,000-mile Sierra Cosworth RS500 could sell for HUGE money
The ultimate Eighties fast Ford in pretty much as-new condition. Prepare for much cash to be exchanged
The retro fast Ford market really has gone bonkers in the last few years, and there’s perhaps no better way to illustrate that than with this particular auction listing.
You see, this isn’t just any fast Ford that’s set to cross the block later this month. The whale-tailed Sierra RS Cosworth was already the one to have, but when 500 examples were sent to Aston Martin Tickford in the late 80s for conversion to the more powerful RS500 spec, they became the Holy Grails.
So yes, this is a 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500, but there’s more detail that’ll contribute to its no-doubt insane eventual sale figure. It’s recently had a full re-commissioning service by the specialists at Tremona Garage in Southampton and it’s got a fresh MOT too. Oh, and it just so happens that it only has 5,192 miles on the clock.
It’ll be sold at Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro sale on 25 February and should break the record for Sierra Cossies (which currently stands at £135,700) thanks to its bonkers estimate of between £150,000 and £180,000.
A fair bit of effort has gone in to retaining this particular RS500’s value though, if we’re honest. The current owner even bought an extra set of period correct RS500 wheels and tyres to ensure that the date-stamped originals didn’t have to “bear the weight of the car for prolonged periods”.
Just how bonkers will the final sale price get?
