A former F1 engine supplier will help build the restomodded NSX’s 3.5-litre V6

JAS has appointed Judd – famous for its V6 and V10s – as its ‘engine partner’

An engine company created by John Judd and three-time F1 champion Sir Jack Brabham will partner with JAS to reengineer the V6 in the middle of its ‘Tensei’ supercar. The Tensei, remember, is JAS’s take on the Mk1 Honda NSX.

Judd of course has plenty of juicy history when it comes to building proper screamers, having made its name in Formula One (V8s and V10s), sports cars (also V10s), and even touring cars.

So it’s got plenty of experience that it’ll apply to the rebuilt Honda 3.5-litre V6 powering the Tensei. We’re told Judd will be responsible for “suitability checks”, along with lightening the thing and making “enhancements” that focus not just on power and torque, but reliability too.

Despite being completely rebuilt, these 3.5-litre six-pots will “remain faithful to the values of the original NSX”.

“We work on 3.5-litre engines, both modern and historic, on a daily basis and are looking forward to applying our knowledge to a Nineties icon like the NSX in order to create a level of performance and drivability that makes it the envy of its class rivals in the modern world,” said John Judd Jr.

So it’ll go with some vigour. Should look fairly decent too – Pininfarina is charged with tweaking the NSX’s design, and these initial renders do look rather dandy indeed. More as we get it.
