Here’s your first look inside the £770k+ JAS Tensei Honda NSX restomod
Pininfarina has given us a glimpse inside the Honda’s new cabin
Yes, you’d like to just see the full, finished car in one go, but this is the game so we must play. You’ve seen the outside of the entirely delectable JAS Tensei here, here, definitely here, maybe also here, and now you can see inside the near-million-quid resto for the first time.
JAS's partner on this project is Pininfarina, who is responsible for not just subtly reimagining the Honda NSX but also being generally Really Good At Stuff. It said it has collaborated with a “top-tier industry partner” for giving the old NSX's interior a major glow-up.
It won’t say who this top-tier partner is, but has at least stayed “faithful to the original Honda NSX concept”, and crucially, avoided “unnecessary modern gimmicks”. As such, you will find: a steering wheel with buttons! A manual gearbox! A start-stop button! A simple radio with dials!
Saying that, we can’t ever remember the original Honda NSX having a giant touchscreen in the raised centre console, but considering how unutterably… drab and dour the original Honda NSX was inside, this is no bad thing. Indeed, the radio at least mirrors the style of the oldtimer's, but just makes it actually appealing.
It’s all trimmed in a far nicer material than before, with lovely switchgear, lovely seat fabric, and a much cleaner, less Nineties-Japanese-car vibe. Naturally there’s a digital display in front of the driver.
Pininfarina says this interior offers “hundreds of customisable combinations”, which is something you’d expect of a car costing upwards of £770,000. And that’s not including the donor car. Or VAT.
But then there’s a huge market for this kind of thing. JAS has a huge history with Honda, Pininfarina has a huge history full stop, and from what we’ve seen so far, it’s quite delectable. We’ll see the full, finished car in one final go at the Paris motor show later this year.
Welcome back, NSX: can Japan's greatest supercar carry off the restomod treatment?
