Need new living room decor? Here’s a miniature 300SL Gullwing for £137

The Gullwing is one of seven models created from Mattel Inc’s new collaboration with Hot Wheels, and it’s most excellent

Published: 01 May 2025

Mattel has teamed up with Hot Wheels to release a fresh set of toy cars, all of which are accompanied by 1:64 scale die-cast versions. Some models will even include the use of real metal, which could spell disaster for your skirting boards.

Three tier levels will be offered, the highest being the 1:12 scale ‘Premium Series’ which currently only has the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing present. It’ll set you back £136.99, and comes with wheel covers, licensed decals and a properly detailed interior. It’s by far the most intricate car of the lot.

Next across is the 1:16 scale ‘Elite Series’, priced at £44.99 per model. Here, customers can choose between an old-school Corvette Grand Sport, which gets metallic exhaust pipes and that typically low-slung silhouette, or a first-gen Honda NSX, fitted with functioning pop-up headlights. Functioning pop-up headlights, guys.

If somehow neither of these float your boat, Mattel will also sell you a custom-built ‘62 Chevrolet pickup truck in vintage Americana spec, with stand-out features being an exposed engine bay, adjustable suspension and a surfboard attached to the rear. Very cool.

Last but not least is the 1:32 scale ‘Speed Series’, where you’ll find Cadillac’s Project GTP hypercar sporting bold graphics and opening doors, a Maserati MC20 that’s probably just as quick as our long-termer, or another custom-built Chevy, this time a souped-up ‘68 Camaro with racing stripes and a pretty mean stance. Each of these cars costs £21.99.

Pre-orders can now be placed at select retailers, with deliveries starting this summer. We’ll take one of the Japanese Ferraris, please.
