Quick, find money and buy this rare Toyota 2000GT

OK, so it’s expected to go for up to £660k, but still. Look at it

  • Only 351 Toyota 2000GTs were ever built, and this is one of them. It’s a left-hand drive version that has lived its life in the States; one of three new 2000GTs supplied to Otto Linton (a revered Watkins Glen driver).

Because it’s a left-hand drive model, it’s one of only 62 cars delivered to America, and this very car has now come up for auction at RM Sotheby’s ‘Elkhart Collection’ sale. Good, clean, well-kept Toyota 2000GTs rarely stick their heads above the water, so this one is special.

  • Linton kept hold of it for over 30 years, after which it passed through a couple of owners, was restored, and now sits in a “high standard”. There’s the Yamaha-tweaked straight-six with 150bhp. There’s its near-perfect weight distribution. There’s a 135mph top speed.

Yes, RM Sotheby’s reckons it’ll go for between $750,000 and $850,000 – circa £660k – and is therefore out of reach for mere mortals (we can but dream). However, for non-mortals, what a car. Click through for more pics.
