Rolls-Royce is working on a high-end, limited-edition version of popular children’s tabletop game Hungry Hippos, sources have revealed to TopGear.com.

It follows the successful launch of the Goodwood carmaker’s bespoke chess set, and will feature a range of exclusive, handcrafted materials to depict the game’s simple premise of smashing a lever on a plastic hippo to scoop up marbles.

Each bespoke Hungry Hippos set will come with four handwritten books bound in full-grain leather, depicting a complex narrative detailing the intersecting lives and journeys of Happy Hippo, Henry Hippo, Homer Hippo and Harry Hippo, all written by a Booker-prize winning novelist.

The hippos themselves will be hand-beaten into shape by a single Rolls-Royce craftsperson from one piece of aluminium, with specially curated leather inserts on the hides and a laser-etched Spirit of Ecstasy emblem on each hippo’s nose.

The mechanism to activate the hippos will be a bespoke, re-engineered hinge from a Rolls-Royce Spectre’s door, modified to activate smoothly and efficiently at the touch of a button. When pressed, the hippos will smoothly, serenely and gracefully attempt to gobble up marbles made out of oak wood sourced from sustainable forests.

“Hungry Hippos By Rolls-Royce is our latest meditation on the natural world’s voracious beginnings and the art of survival,” an insider said. “Clients will be able to customise their own sets using Rolls-Royce’s century-long experience in elevating the norms and upending convention.

“Plus, our hippos are super posh,” they added.

Applications to purchase the exclusive Hungry Hippos game will only be open to those clients who have bought or ordered a Rolls-Royce Cullinan within the last 12 months.
