The ATS GT is a 700bhp carbon supercar from Italy
Obscure supercars your thing? Add this biturbo V8 Italian to your bank of knowledge
If your Mastermind specialist subject is obscure supercars, then prepare to get swotting up on this, the ATS GT.
It’s also a good one for marking off your cliché bingo card too. Hailing from Italy, a choice pick from the GT’s press release is that it’s a “refined but strong-hearted Italian beauty, ready to capture hearts and heads”.
Aiming for the hearts is its bi-turbo V8 engine with up to 700bhp, depending on how you spec it. Always spec the most power, guys. The engine drives the rear wheels only through a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
Its top speed is described as ‘more than 206mph’, while 0-60mph takes 3.0secs and 0-120mph is dispatched in 9.9secs. There’s launch control, a G-meter and variable driving modes (Tour, Sport and Race) to make sure it rivals the established supercar makers on tech.
Naturally, carbonfibre is everywhere, and is used extensively in the bodywork and chassis. That gives the GT a dry weight of around 1,300kg, which makes it similar to a McLaren 720S once you’ve added a driver and some fuel.
The interior looks pure concept car, with an almighty amount of suede, some nifty TFT dials and a supremely minimalist look. The gear selector is a borderline work of art, too.
Plenty to capture hearts, then. But what about heads? ATS quotes 23.5mpg, there are parking cameras and the nav system comes from Google. Yeah, it’s not exactly a Yeti or a Scenic when it comes to sensible stuff.
Like it? Is your head, heart or both captured?
