This is the final Bugatti Bolide, which means it’s the final 8.0-litre W16 powerhaus
The final car from a production run of just 40 has rolled out of the factory
This is it. The last one. Bugatti’s Bolide project was meant to showcase and celebrate that magnificent 8.0-litre W16 engine; give it a final hurrah. Well, this is the very last hurrah from a chorus of only 40 hurrahs.
Because only 40 of these bewinged lunatics were scheduled to be built, and you’re looking at number 40. Not much hurrah happening now.
“The final Bolide marks the end of a chapter for Bugatti,” said… Bugatti. “A milestone that carries profound meaning for the brand, marking the culmination of a project that has pushed the boundaries of what is possible in track-focused automotive engineering.”
This final car naturally features a bespoke spec, as every Bugatti does: ‘Black Blue’ and ‘Special Blue Lyonnais’ body details, ‘Lake Blue’ Alcantara inside, a French flag on the side, and some ‘Light Blue Sport’ interior stitching. Basically: It Blue.
The idea – first booted around Molsheim back in August 2021 – was a ‘what if’ type thing, to make that W16 sing loud and clear for the ‘gentleman racer’, and therefore make it accessible, but also let seasoned pros have at it with fury.
The design was finalised in 2022, and engineering in 2023, at which point Andy Wallace hit 217mph down the Le Mans 24hr circuit’s Mulsanne Straight. Development of the thing continued across 2023 and 2024, until finally, in 2025, we come to the end of the journey.
Indeed, we drove the Bolide earlier this year, and came away with a simple conclusion: it’s less menacing to drive than it is to look at. “It’s polished and approachable, which gives the driver the bandwidth to enjoy and appreciate the Bolide’s centrepiece: the 16 pulsating pistons and conrods, four turbos and 64 valves that make up the world’s one and only W16 engine,” said Top Gear’s Ollie Marriage.
