In the issue we head to Alfa HQ and get the rare opportunity to drive some of the finest classics from their historic collection. A little unsure of what they’d give us access to, we were somewhat delighted to see the 6C 1500 SS, Giulia T1 Super, Tipo 33 Daytona, 75 Turbo Evoluzione and 8C Competizione waiting for us. We also ask resident experts Rory Reid, Chris Harris, Tom Ford and some Finnish bloke called Valtteri Bottas why Alfa Romeos make us smile.
Elsewhere in the issue, our main twin test features the Bentley Bentayga and Range Rover SVA going head-to-head in a quest to be the ultimate luxury SUV. We drive the Porsche 911R, a collection of the best bits of various 911s, and ask whether its a clever marketing job, or quite simply, the perfect 911.
Our main group test is a monster SUV showdown: the Jaguar F-Pace battles the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi SQ5 and Porsche Macan S in the Peak District. We also take a first look at the latest in a long line of most excellent BMW concepts, the 2002 hommage.
On our overseas adventures this month, we celebrate the 50th birthday of the jaw-dropping Lamborghini Miura by driving it in the high peaks of the Italian Alps (did someone say dream job?). We also get lost in the desert in the cutting-edge armoured Plasan Sandcat and visit Cuba to meet the stars of new street racing film, the Havana Motor Club.
Is the Indy 500 the greatest race on Earth? We head stateside to see if it lives up to the hype. Plus we get thoughts from Derek Bell, Mario Andretti and Sir Stirling Moss. We also see what happens in a day in the life of Mercedes F1 boss, Toto Wolff.
We drive all the new cars that matter, including the Audi Q2 TFSI, Ford Edge Sport, Jaguar F-Pace 2.0d, McLaren 570GT, Volvo XC90, Skoda Superb Estate, Maxda CX-3 and Mercedes C63 AMG. In our twin tests the Land Rover Discovery Spot takes on the Ford S-Max, and the VW Golf GTI does battle against the Honda Civic Type-R.
Never miss an issue with one of these great offers:
