Caterham has built a special limited edition Seven R for the Miami Grand Prix
Unsurprisingly, it is called the Miami Special Edition, and just 12 will be available
Miami’s not really known for its subtlety, so how exactly does one make a small, supernaturally brilliant British sportscar laser-honed on lightness and agility stand out in a sea of glitzy trillion-dollar supercars and road-going tanks?
A funky paintjob and a race weekend reveal, naturally. Welcome, friends, to Caterham’s Big American Holiday: the Miami Special Edition. It will come as no great surprise that this is a special edition Caterham that will be fully unveiled in Miami, at this weekend’s Formula One race.
It’s decked out in special ‘Aqua’ paint (baby blue) with Miami-esque decals in white and pink flashed across the side, along with a little decal of the Miami GP circuit that finishes off the rear.
It will come as no great surprise that inside the diminutive Caterham sits embroidered Miami script on the headrests, and specially engraved plaques on the dash and in the engine bay.
Speaking of which, it’s a US-spec Seven R underneath, which summons the might of a 2.0-litre Ford Duratec four-pot for 210bhp, 375bhp-per-tonne, a 0-60mph time of 3.8s and a top speed – where permitted – of 136mph. Just remember to pack your slimline shoes.
Why Miami, and why now? It’s part of Caterham’s mission to increase its US customer base, so where better than a packed Grand Prix race, It’s also why 10 of the 12 Miami Special Editions are being made available exclusively to the carmaker’s US dealer network.
