Here are 10 used classic cars for under £30k we found this week

From race-ready Abarth 695s to AC Schnitzer-tuned BMW estates, we’ve got it all this week

Mazda RX-7 FC
  • Fiat Abarth 695

    Fiat Abarth 695

Here sits a 57-year-old Abarth 695 ‘SS’ hill climb car with a raunchy livery and tiny alloys. Mechanically, it gets a synchromesh gearbox and a reconditioned 695cc engine, which should sound spectacular through the Monza exhaust. All this in a bundle of excellence the size of a shoe, of which fewer than 1,000 were ever built.

  • Toyota Corolla (AE86)

    Toyota Corolla (AE86)

We don’t know if we’re going to get the GR Corolla here in the UK, so why not look to the past for a solution? This is a 122bhp inline-four-powered ‘Levin’ with a manual transmission, sleek aero kit and slightly dished six-spoke alloys. Best of all, it has less than 25,000 miles to its name.

  • BMW M3 cabriolet (E36)

    BMW M3 cabriolet (E36)

This E36 M3 cabriolet has gone through a full restoration, meaning the blue body and colour-matched roof are in stunning condition. There’s a few tasteful aftermarket modifications, including a thin headlight attachment and an Alpine sound system - but will you ever really use the latter with 286 naturally aspirated horses to hand?

  • Mazda RX-7 (FC)

    Mazda RX-7 (FC)

Another convertible, but this one’s a few years older, gets pop-up headlights and a screaming turbocharged rotary powertrain. The second-gen RX-7 is down on power compared to the Bimmer by around 86bhp, and costs £13k more, but the upshot is an odometer reading of under 14,000 miles. It’s brand new for crying out loud.

  • Chevrolet Corvette (C5)

    Chevrolet Corvette (C5)

Anyone fancy a 5.7-litre ‘LS1’ V8 engine from General Motors? You even get an entire C5-generation Chevrolet Corvette as part of the deal, with a targa roof, a full set of Michelin PS4 tyres and leather seats. It may have an automatic transmission, but keep a steady line and it’ll get from 0-62mph in 4.7s. Many wins to be had here.

  • Lotus Europa

    Lotus Europa

A true standout, in part thanks to its tributary Gold Leaf livery and strange roofline. This Europa ‘S2’ also has a string of cool features, including a carbon fibre engine bay, full red leather cabin and lowered floor pans for increased headroom. It’s not fast, but good god is it desirable.

  • Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution

    Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution

Want a medieval off-roader that isn’t a Rangie? Here’s a Pajero Evolution with a lanky stance, double-wishbone suspension and thick Maxxis tyres to soak up some punishment. That pronounced bonnet scoop should keep the 3.5-litre V6 cool in deepest, rural Wales too.

  • Porsche 944 Turbo

    Porsche 944 Turbo

You’ll find no shortage of 996s and the odd 993 in the classifieds for under £30k, but why compromise on a lower-spec 911 when you can have this 944 Turbo? It’s made even peppier with an uprated engine management chip, racing blowers and a stage one intercooler. The result is 375bhp coursing through its driveshaft. Blimey.

  • BMW 540i Touring (E34)

    BMW 540i Touring (E34)

One of the coolest wagons ever made. This 540i has even been fettled by German tuner AC Schnitzer, so it gets a bespoke exhaust and suspension setup, and a tweaked 4.0-litre V8 that shells out 286bhp. Just look at those shoes.

  • Wildcard: Toyota Supra (A80)

    Toyota Supra (A80)

For an extra £10k on top of this week’s budget, here’s a Mk4 Supra in Castrol Tom’s livery. Yes, just like the one popularised by Gran Turismo… if you can ignore the differing alloys, bumpers and lights. And engine, since Tom’s used a 2.0-litre ‘3SG’ four-pot, and not the original 3.0-litre ‘2JZ’ straight-six. Still, solid effort.
