This £10k watch celebrates 75 years of Porsche

The ‘Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Edition’ is a rather expensive birthday present

Published: 06 Jun 2023

As you may be aware, Porsche is celebrating its 75th birthday this year. As a result, there will be a number of different parties and presents to itself throughout the year, and we’ve already been rather taken with the Vision 357 concept.

Unfortunately, the likelihood of that making production anytime soon is pretty slim, so here’s something celebratory that you can actually buy right now. It’s the Porsche Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Edition – a homage to Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s first watch which started the whole Porsche Design thing in 1972.

This new celebration timepiece gets a titanium case with a black titanium carbide coating, and the dial is black with white accents like a classic Porsche clock. There are two straps – a simple black leather one or a fabric item with blue and red stitching to mirror the colours Porsche is using in its 75th anniversary logo. And then check out the back of the watch. The rotor is in the shape of a classic Fuchs five-leaf wheel. Nice.

It'd ought to be nice at this price though. Limited to 475 examples, the special Chronograph 1 will set you back £10,100. Ouch. Wouldn’t you be better off buying a high-mileage 996 Carrera 2 as a tribute?
