What should I be paying?
When we tested the revised Q2 in late 2020, the 35 TFSI returned 34mpg, but this improved when the car was set to Efficiency mode, which decouples the engine from the transmisison when coasting so it can idle while the car freewheels. With a bit of anticipation this brings palpable fuel savings.
For this alone it's worth shunning the manual. Be warned, both transmissions have recently been sullied with inexplicable gear levers which seems to have bits missing from the sides and are uncomfortable to hold. We're not mad, we're just... confused. What a design slip-up.
We’d skip AWD to save a bit of weight. This thing's never going off-road. Want winter peace of mind? Spend the year-round fuel savings on winter tyres, and some thermal underwear.
There are five trim levels to choose from. Technik is the base, with Sport (17in alloys, sports seats), S Line (18in wheels, mild bodykit), Black Edition (19in wheels, much black trim, cloying flat-bottom steering wheel) and Vorsprung (leather, pano-sunroof, posh suspension, self-parking… basically ALL OF THE THINGS) above it. The cheapest Vorsprung is nearly 40 grand. Stay safe on the configurator, good people of the internet…
