Buying
What should I be paying?
The Peugeot 5008 starts at £40,635 and not a penny less (unless you've found one on the black market or something). That sees you into the hybrid. The plug-in hybrid starts at £43,365 in the most basic trim.
On lease, bank on £500 per month for the former and £540 for the latter over four years, on the basis of a 10 per cent deposit. Peugeot is offering a fixed 6.9 per cent APR at the time of writing, but you might find better if you do some digging elsewhere.
A Skoda Kodiaq will set you back near enough exactly the same, a Kia Sorento a couple of grand extra on top and a Hyundai Santa Fe the same on top again.
What’s the difference between kit?
Your choices are Allure, Allure Premium, GT and GT Premium. Allure gets LED headlights, three-claw daytime running lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows and keyless entry, while inside highlights include the 21-inch panoramic curved display, configurable i-Toggles, eight-colour ambient lighting, wireless charger, rear camera and parking sensors. There’s plenty more too.
Allure Premium upgrades the 19s, and adds gloss black roof rails, heated front seats and steering wheel, a 10-way adjustable driver's seat and a 360-degree camera. That one's £1,100 more than Allure.
If you’ve got cash to burn then GT versions add pixel LED headlights, 3D LED rear lights, HD graphics on the screen and a hands-free electric tailgate. That's £44,085 for the hybrid.
Finally, for £45,315 you can have GT Premium that introduces a black contrast roof, Alcantara seats and a few other trinkets.
Opting for the plug-in adds about £3k to the asking price across the board. You'll need to get the calculator out to see how long it'll take you to make back the extra outlay in lower running costs.
Which one should I buy?
Frankly we don’t think you need to look past Allure trim, which gets pretty much everything you could ever really need as standard, maybe with the exception of the heated seats. Wear thermals if it's chilly.
If you're desperate for the plug-in, the 5008 manages less e-range than the Skoda Kodiaq but affords you the option of seven seats. Your call.
