What should I be paying?

Prices start at £38,270 for the D4, and while that’s not an insignificant sum of money, it's not much different to what you'd pay for a sporty R-Design or posh Inscription V60 with the same engine.

Kit levels are very reasonable, with that nine-inch touchscreen (plus navigation), LED headlights, a power tailgate, front parking sensors and Volvo’s OnCall connected services platform (which among other things lets you control certain vehicle functions, like pre-heating the cabin and locking/unlocking, from an app on your smart phone) all there as standard. Orders are being taken now, for deliveries in the first quarter of 2019.

Residuals are being touted as “best in class”, so you ought not to lose too much money when you come to move it on. For those of you who lease or finance, prices haven’t yet been finalised. Company car drivers are looking at a BIK rate of 32-33 per cent thanks to emissions of 135g/km, which equates to around £200 per month. With a claimed 47.9mpg on the cards, assuming you spec small wheels, you needn’t stop very frequently for fuel, either.

All the really advanced driver assistance systems are optional, but worth having as they’re among the best available on any car.
