McMurtry has broken yet another record... this time by accident
The tiny fan car has obliterated the current Laguna Seca outright electric car record by over *eight seconds*
If you thought the McMurtry Spéirling’s crazy lap times were only doable in the hands of a seasoned veteran, think again. It’s now snatched the outright EV record at Laguna Seca somewhat accidentally, because it was simply... tottering along during some demonstration laps.
Oh, and it was driven by a non-professional driver. While operating at 50 per cent. Seriously, it's just taking the mickey now.
We say that because its 738th record comes barely one month after the Spéirling set a new hill climb record at the same track, which itself happened a week before the fan-powered giant slayer claimed dominion over Castle Combe. If this thing were a human child, it would’ve sat its GCSEs while still in the womb.
Anyway, the latest Laguna Seca run was completed by a ‘PURE VP1’ specification car, which is McMurtry’s latest version. Of the seven total laps, the quickest time set was 1m 18.4s - 6.3s quicker than the Czinger 21C’s production car record for reference.
And given that it was spinning at just half of the potential that its dual electric motor and 60kWh lithium-ion battery pairing can work at, it really does make you wonder how much more the Spéirling has to give.
To find out for yourself, you’ll need to... accidentally write a cheque of nearly a million quid to McMurtry to take delivery of your own Spéirling. And probably do some accidental neck muscle training while waiting, too.
