Yikes, the reborn Meyers Manx EV will start at $74k

We’ve much want for the new Meyers Manx 2.0 EV, but it won’t come cheap…

Published: 29 Aug 2023

We were plenty excited when we first got wind of the Meyers Manx 2.0 EV, as debuted at The Quail in California a year ago, and we now know that prices will start at $74,000 (approximately £59,000). Yeah, not exactly cheap, is it?

You’ll recall the original Meyers Manx, of course, which was based on the VW Beetle and first arrived in 1964. The Manx 2.0 wants to be the electric beach buggy for the modern age, and pleasingly stays largely faithful to its founder Bruce Meyers’ original design.

Not so much under the skin, however, where it gets two electric motors (one for each rear wheel) for a combined 202bhp and 240lb ft of torque. Buyers get the choice of 20kWh and 40kWh batteries for a claimed range of 150 and 300 miles respectively.

Any aspiring dune bashers can reserve a Meyers Manx 2.0 EV with a $500 deposit, and if you’re looking for a reason to justify the price tag, it's perhaps worth knowing that the company aims to make it road legal. Still, that is a fair amount of cash for something with no doors, no boot and no real interior to speak of, isn't it?
