The Rolls-Royce Spectre Lunaflare is a one-off recreation of a natural cosmic light show
It took a whole year to make and has over seven layers of paint applied to achieve the effect
No two Rolls-Royces that leave the factory are the same these days, and of these already bespoke creations, here’s one Spectre that’s even more unique than the rest. Dubbed the ‘Lunaflare’, it’s inspired by a stunning natural phenomenon called a lunar halo.
It occurs when light beams through ice particles in high altitude cirrus clouds to create a ring effect around the moon. With the Lunaflare, RR has attempted to recreate it using a holographic body paint.
It took a year to develop and has led to a rainbow effect that seems to constantly change shade, intensity and colour. To achieve this, its design team had to apply seven layers of various pearlescent coats, magnesium flakes and... unicorn dust. Maybe.
The cabin has seen an equally creative approach, blending blue, pink and white hues to recreate a lunar halo’s colour palette. The scheme also follows through to the starlight headliner, while the steering wheel is finished in blue/white two-tone.
No changes have been made to the Spectre’s all-electric powertrain though, so it’ll continue to send 577bhp and 664lb ft to all four wheels for around 300 miles of driving. But who knows, maybe it’ll gain a few extra miles if the moon decides to put on a funky light show for you?
