The Dark Knight’s Honda-powered Batpod is back up for sale, could fetch £900k
Missed out the first two times this went up for auction? Third time’s a charm
Batman’s Batpod is coming up for auction. It is the same Batpod that came up for auction in 2016. And then again in 2023. If you feel like now’s the time to strike, third time’s a charm, right?
Speaking of strike, it’s one of just six Batpods created for The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, two lightly popular films you may have heard of. This one “screen-matches” Batman’s pursuit of the Joker in The Dark Knight.
So it’s got “several distinctive marks and scratches” along its right-hand side to testify it’s the real deal. You know of course that it was driven by stunt driver Jean-Pierre Goy during filming, and later used for loads of promo events.
You also know – because it’s now the third time this is being made available for public consumption – the Batpod was a very uniquely styled bike powered by a Honda 750 engine sitting on a custom chassis running 31in Hoosier racing tyres. It also featured fibreglass body panels too, much to the delight of Nineties hot hatch tuners.
The cannons weren’t real, ditto the frickin’ laser-targeting thingy. Brakes worked, thankfully, while Goy’s derriere was cushioned by black foam padding around the body, saddle and knees.
“The vehicle remains in very good condition and is supplied with a metal support stand for display purposes,” explains auctioneer Propstore. The starting price for the auction is £225,000, but Propstore reckons it could run from £450,000 to £900,000. All this for a bike that’s been “drained of all fluids”, and had its battery, fuel tank and throttle controls all removed.
The bike you deserve, or the one you need right now?
