Heavens above, Theon Design's 911 Targa is utterly gorgeous...

...and £415k. But for that you get an all-carbon tub, an upgraded 403bhp flat-six, and those stunning looks

Oxfordshire-based Theon Design has just commissioned its first Porsche 911 Targa restomod - dubbed ‘GBR003’ - and we want one… badly.

It’s based on the 964 generation Carrera 2 and has incorporated a new all-carbon chassis which brings the weight down to just 1,228kg. That means it'll probably corner like a mosquito with Lucozade flowing through its veins.

Sticking with the refreshed internals, GBR003 features an air-cooled, naturally aspirated, 4.0-litre flat-six which sends 403bhp and 320lb ft of torque to the road through a six-speed manual transmission. It’s also been given the brakes from a 993 RS and is further aided by new five-stage adaptive dampers and Michelin Pilot 4S rubber.

Surrounding all that mechanical goodness is a Pastel Blue coating atop a completely stripped and restored exterior, refined over thousands of hours using 3D design technology. Microsoft Paint probably wouldn’t have been sufficient.

As with nearly all 911 restomods most styling traits have been left well alone, although Theon Design has lightly reimagined some elements. So the five-spoke 18in ‘Fuchs’ alloys look a little more profiled, and the engine fumes now simmer through ceramic quad exhaust pipes instead of the standard single exit.

The whole body looks more swollen than the original courtesy of the wider arches, while a small duck-tail spoiler sits above the now separate taillights, which replace the old light bar.

Then you’ve got the cabin which, despite being the main focus area for the weight-shedding, still looks rather fetching. Both the front and rear bucket seats are upholstered with liquorice leather and accented by grey ‘Pepita’ blocks. You’ve even got a Pioneer six-speaker audio system for company, though it might be a little pointless with that flat-six acting as the lead orchestra.

“With our first Targa commission, the whole Theon team has been determined to set new standards for an air-cooled open-top Porsche 911 driving experience," said Theon Design co-founder Adam Hawley.

"We’ve been totally focused on honouring and distilling the air-cooled recipe, forensically honing every element to create a rewarding, analogue classic 911 that combines the sensory richness of Targa motoring with razor-sharp handling and visceral modern performance.”
