Is this the ultimate mashup of Jaguar E-Type generations?
Series I body, Series II chassis and Series III engine: Frankenstein projects are rarely this well-formed
This, folks, is the ECD E-Type GTO and it's a one-off private commission featuring bodywork inspired by the Series I, the chassis of a Series II and the 5.3-litre V12 from a Series III. So it's a Franken-Jag, but way, way prettier.
The engine's been rebuilt and modified up to 400bhp, courtesy of Texas-based classic restoration firm Team CJ, a feat made possible by custom cradle and axle units which have allowed the chassis to accommodate twice the number of cylinders it was actually intended for.
The body, meanwhile, has been hand-built by seasoned metalworkers in the E-Type’s spiritual home of Coventry. That thick bump on the long-nose bonnet and those curvy arches, the hunkered stance and the slight negative camber at the real wheels; it all knits together wonderfully.
Other prominent features include a bespoke twin-pipe central exhaust, 15in wire wheels and yellow fog lamps. Because who doesn’t like yellow fog lamps? ECD says all this is supposed to evoke the spirit of classic endurance racing cars, and thanks to the correct metallic British Racing Green finish, we reckon it’s pulled it off.
It’s a familiar old Jag inside too: upholstery comprising hand-stitched leather, fluted into a vertical pattern, brushed aluminium dashboard and yesteryear gauges and toggle switches. There’s a bit of modernity in there too, thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, a couple of USB ports and a proper locking system.
“This car pushed the limits of what’s possible when blending three generations of architecture,” said ECD CTO Elliot Humble. “Every part was reconsidered, refined and reengineered to work in harmony. Once it all came together and we rolled it out for the first time, we knew this was something the world had never seen - and might never see again.”
Until someone else comes along thinking they can create a better Franken-Jag, obvs.
