The 2.9-tonne, 885bhp Zeekr 9X Super Hybrid is coming to Europe…

This is the Zeekr 9X Super Hybrid. It is not a large, premium SUV that rivals other large, premium SUVs. It is a ginormous premium SUV that’s as long as a long wheelbase Range Rover and as heavy as a small moon.

It’s been on sale in China since 2025 and today, Zeekr has revealed this 9X Super Hybrid is heading to Europe. And as befits a luxury Chinese car, there’s a lot stuffed into those vast, chunky flanks.

Like a complex powertrain that’s… a little diluted compared to the tri-motor rocket they get in China. Europe will only be treated to a twin electric motor setup – one motor on the front, one on the back – along with a 55.1kWh battery, 900V architecture and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Sounds like it’ll be an e-focused hybrid, with that engine pulled into service to act as a generator or to assist the electricity if you’re doing proper distance. Zeekr quotes a measly electric-only range of 111 miles (!), but a combined range of 458 miles, and the ability to charge the thing up from 10-80 per cent in 9.5 minutes (depending on the charger).

Naturally how far you can travel depends largely on how many of its many horsepowers you deploy – it’s got 885 of them, along with 690lb ft, can accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.1s and top out just shy of 150mph. Now. That’s slower than the 9X they get in China, which is absurdly, obscenely fast: their tri-motor version can crack the 0-62mph sprint in 3.1s. In something weighing 2.9-tonnes (!) that’s… alarmingly fast.

Despite this haste – 885bhp is still massive power – Zeekr highlights the car’s luxury aspirations. You get adaptive air suspension offering many modes, a six-seat layout, massaging/ventilated/heated/reclining chairs that turn the interior “into a private lounge”, active noise cancellation, “luxury materials” like posh leather, wood and even “jewellery-grade faceting”, and All The Tech.

Zeekr claims the 9X gets a “47in head-up display projecting navigation, speed, blind spot camera feed and information directly into the driver’s line of sight”. That’s… a big line of sight. Elsewhere you’ll see a pair of massive OLED screens in the middle, a smattering of buttons, and- oh, you want more screen? There’s a 17in OLED in the ceiling that ‘glides’ into view to act as a cinema.

That goes hand in hand with the 32-speaker Naim audio system, so it’s like what BMW did with the i7 back in 2022. There’s even a fridge.

Speaking of which, there’s a big, upright grille, sharp headlights, and a blocky, imposing silhouette. “Despite its commanding size, this car is extroverted and elegant simultaneously,” said Zeekr Europe boss Lothar Schupet.
