This special edition C8 Z06 celebrates 70 years of Corvette
Lots of badges and some fancy luggage help to mark Chevy’s anniversary celebration
In 2023, Chevrolet will celebrate 70 years of the Corvette, which is why it is offering a special anniversary edition of this most famous of American supercars… in 2022. Makes perfect sense.
It is called the Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition, and as befits a big milestone, Chevy has deemed it sufficient to outfit its mid-engined hero in a swathe of… badges. And matching luggage. Because nothing screams anniversary like a new suitcase.
For an undisclosed amount of money (prices haven’t yet been divulged), the special ‘Vette features ‘70th Anniversary Edition’ badges inside and out, red brake calipers, a rear bumper protector and boot cover, special two-tone ‘GT2’ or ‘Competition’ seats with red stitching, the option of a few different colours (white, black, ‘carbon flash metallic’), and the aforementioned luggage set bespoke to the car.
Oh, and a red engine cover. There’s no more power under that cover, but then the new Z06 isn’t exactly shy. Unveiled late last year and now available in right-hand-drive, the Z06 gets a 5.5-litre naturally-aspirated V8 producing 670bhp. This hand-built flat-plane crank unit will also rev to 8,600rpm so, there’s that. Fast, too.
The very first anniversary car will be auctioned off for charity, and each one will be available from this summer. Even regular ‘Vettes not fitted with the anniversary pack will still get a commemorative plaque inside to celebrate 70 years of the Corvette… in 2022.
Here are six times the Corvette has been an absolute giant-killer
