Buying
What should I be paying?
Prices start at £56,860 for the P6 in Plus form, rising to £70,360 for the P12 AWD Ultra. For reference, the Audi Q6 e-tron begins below £60k, as do the BMW iX3 50 xDrive and Mercedes GLC; the latter significantly.
All XE60s are pretty well stocked, but Ultra brings desirable additions such as hi-def pixel headlights, diamond cut alloys, electrochromic roof, and the utterly sublime Bowers & Wilkins audio system, with its 1,820W output, 28 speakers and Dolby Atmos capability.
Assuming that all the servicing is done by an official Volvo dealer, the EX60’s battery warranty runs for up to 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever arrives first. Even if you go outside the network, it’ll still cover eight years or 100,000 miles.
Volvo also backs its tech by offering a battery passport, a digital document that provides info on battery type, lifecycle data, CO2 footprint and more.
Residual values on all EVs remain moot, but Volvo, like others, is working hard to future-proof its cars. The upgrading process is constant, so the lingering idea of built-in obsolescence is becoming less of an issue. Think more expensive lap-top than smartphone.
