Rimac is working on a single-seater that’ll be faster than an F1 and Le Mans car
Imagine Nevera R tech repackaged into what could be the fastest car in the world
Rimac is a purveyor of supernaturally fast electric cars and cutting edge electrification technology. In news that might not surprise you, it recently revealed its intention to… build a supernaturally fast electric car using cutting edge electrification technology.
Only, this new project has really very lofty ambitions, because boss Mate Rimac said he wants to create a single seater that’ll be the fastest thing on four wheels. That’s right, it’s time to board the Hype Train – please keep your hands and feet inside the carriage at all times.
Because you’ll need to hang on. “Nevera R is here to push the limits in road cars,” Mate said at the Monterey Car Week. “But we have been working simultaneously on another project related to this vision.
“Picture this with me: a Rimac single seater that’s going to be faster than any race car for most tracks.
“Faster than Formula 1. Faster than Le Mans,” he added.
That’s all Mate would reveal for now. But it wouldn’t be a stretch to see the Nevera R’s bombastic quad-motor powertrain repackaged into something even more focused.
About that Nevera R. It uses a next-gen 108kWh battery said to be lighter and more efficient than the one in the so-called ‘standard’ Nevera, able to power those four motors to the tune of 2,078bhp. Which means it’ll do 0-62mph in 1.81s and 0-186mph in 8.66s.
Other elements that’ll feed into this unhinged single seater include the Nevera R’s better downforce, reduced understeer, and upgraded traction control systems; systems that have helped that R lap Nardo’s handling circuit 3.8s quicker than the standard car.
Now imagine all of that supernaturally fast electrification technology inside a lighter, stiffer single seater body, focused purely on destroying lap times… and the contours of your organs, no doubt. Now that’s a surprise. More as we get it.
