The racing Nissan GT-R GT3 from the Gran Turismo movie is up for sale
Mardenborough’s real-life and stunt car comes to auction, could fetch £275k
The Nissan GT-R GT3 as raced by GT Academy winner – and now movie star – Jann Mardenborough has come up for auction.
Silverstone Auctions, who’ll sell the car on 25 August, says it’s the “most successful GT-R Nismo R35 GT3 still in private hands”. Those hands being Darren Cox – the former Nissan director who created the concept of the Nissan GT Academy with Sony and Gran Turismo.
Mardenborough himself drove this very car in the new Gran Turismo movie – out next month – as well as in real life. We’re told it achieved Nissan’s best result in recent history when it finished 9th at the 2015 Nürburgring 24hr race.
The new movie immortalises Mardenborough’s triumph in the unique competition, which saw sim racers with no experience of real-life racing given the opportunity and a chance to race for Nissan. Mardenborough was the third winner of the competition, and later went on to become a bona fide racing driver, even scoring a podium at Le Mans in an LMP2 car.
The car is apparently in ‘race-ready’ condition, able to compete in the GT Cup, Masters and ‘various GT events globally’. Silverstone Auctions reckons on a price of somewhere between £225,000 to £275,000.
